A Huntington Beach man was critically injured Sunday morning when his car was broadsided by a passing vehicle as he was pulling out of a private driveway.
Jose Eleazar Piedra, 55, of Huntington Beach, suffered severe head and chest injuries in the 9:47 a.m. collision on Edinger Avenue, east of Bolsa Chica Road, said Lt. Luis Ochoa, of the Huntington Beach Police Department.
Piedra’s 1977 Ford Mustang was struck on the driver’s door by an eastbound Chevy Suburban driven by Christine Dedeaux of Huntington Beach and was pushed 70 feet down the roadway, Ochoa said.
Piedra, who had to be extracted from his car by firefighters and paramedics using the Jaws of Life, was transported by helicopter to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Dedeaux and a passenger, a minor whose name was not released, were treated by paramedics at the scene.
Police did not release any information about who caused the accident.
