COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Long Beach State Gains 17-16 Water Polo Victory Over UC San Diego

Tim Ault, Ian Taylor and Greg Finley scored goals in double overtime to lift Long Beach State to a 17-16 victory over UC San Diego in a nonconference water polo game Saturday at Long Beach.
Long Beach led, 7-4, at halftime, but San Diego scored five goals in each of the final two quarters. The Tritons’ Craig Gruber scored a two-point goal to send the game into overtime.
Ault led Long Beach (4-13) with six goals and Joaquin Felsmann added four.
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, San Jose State 1--Brita Schwerm had 21 kills to lead 10th-ranked Long Beach State (13-3, 8-1), 15-10, 3-15, 15-7, 15-7.
In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s volleyball:
Southern California College 3, Concordia 1--Genevie Wright had 18 kills and Angela Tonavanik had three consecutive solo blocks to lead Southern California College (16-6, 5-4). Concordia fell to 11-11, 2-7.
In the Colorado College volleyball tournament:
Chapman finishes second--Shawna Parkinson had 19 kills as Chapman (18-5) defeated host Colorado College in three games, 15-7, 15-8, 15-10, to finish second in the tournament at Colorado Springs, Colo.
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo:
Pacific 8, UC Irvine 7--Rey Rivera, Axel Wohlfarth and Matt Radke scored two goals each for Pacific (13-5). Peter Muller had two goals and a two-point goal for host UCI (5-10).
In the New Mexico State Golf Classic:
Irvine third--Jesse Lanham shot a one-over par 73, finishing sixth, to lead the Anteaters to a third-place tie with San Diego State.
