Brandy’s Leap

One of the hottest singles on the Times’ Southern California pop chart is “I Wanna Be Down,” by 15-year-old pop/R&B; singer Brandy, who is from Carson. The single, which jumped from No. 8 to No. 3, is from her self-titled debut album. Madonna’s new single, “Secret,” entered the pop chart last week at No. 10 and appeared to be on its way to the top. False alarm. It went into reverse, slipping to No. 12. Not a good sign for the fate of her upcoming album, which features the single.
