Saugus Makes Burroughs Miserable

BURBANK — How anemic did Burroughs High appear in its 28-7 loss to Saugus in a Foothill League opener Friday night?
For starters, the host Indians (2-4) had 59 yards of total offense, while losing 75 yards on seven penalties. And quarterback Mike Barrett slipped and fell on two occasions while taking the snap from center, although he prevented a shutout with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 8 minutes 23 seconds to play.
Add four interceptions, including a 32-yard return for a touchdown by Brandon Alvarado and it made for a dismal Burroughs evening.
Junior running back Jeremy Mushinski II provided the highlights for Saugus (3-2-1), carrying 26 times for 92 yards, including three touchdowns.
After marching 66 yards in eight plays on the opening possession, Saugus quarterback Kevin Carrasco finished with 162 yards passing, completing 16 of 26. Colin Butterfield had 10 catches for 97 yards.
