Woman, 50, Found Dead in Condo

LAGUNA HILLS — A 50-year-old woman was found bludgeoned to death Friday in her condominium, authorities said.
Police identified the woman as Marie Evans Powell, who had just moved to the townhome in the 22000 block of Caminito Tecate. She was found in her bathrobe just before noon by family members who were called by the woman’s concerned employer, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Dan Martini.
Investigators said Powell, who was found on the lower level of her home, had been beaten on the upper portion of her body with a blunt instrument. There was no sign of forced entry, and no neighbors reported hearing unusual noises, he said.
Martini said the neighborhood where the killing occurred is “a quiet area. We don’t get many calls from there.”
Deputies canvassed the area, looking for witnesses.
