About 6,000 people are expected to participate in a walkathon Sunday to benefit Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
Registration is at 6:30 a.m. next to the Performing Arts Center near South Coast Plaza.
The walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and is sponsored by CHOC. It costs $25 to enter, and participants who raise $1,000 through sponsors can win a weeklong trip to Walt Disney World in Florida.
“We’re going to have babies in strollers, kids in wagons, and people walking in costumes just for fun,” said Janet Nagurski, a support group assistant for the hospital’s fund-raising activities. “The money goes to help for the children’s care. This way, no child will be turned away. It’s kind of like socialized medicine.”
Children’s Hospital, in the city of Orange, is the only pediatric facility in Orange County. This is the fourth consecutive year the hospital has held the five-kilometer walk, which takes in South Coast Plaza and surrounding area.
Walkers can win prizes, depending on how much money they raise from their sponsors.
