Wallace Leads Workman Past Bolsa Grande

City of Industry Workman’s Charles Wallace ran for 198 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Lobos to a 27-0 nonleague victory over Bolsa Grande Thursday night at La Puente High School.

Bolsa Grande (1-5) struggled on both sides of the ball and lost its fifth consecutive game.

Wallace got Workman on the board first when, with four minutes left in the first quarter, he returned a punt 67 yards.

The Workman defense held the Matadors to only one first down in their first three possessions.

Workman (1-5) struck again on the second play of the second quarter when quarterback Ryan Graham ran a quarterback draw eight yards for a 13-0 lead.

Bolsa Grande’s best scoring opportunity followed, when Matador quarterback David Prince connected with David Ross on a 46-yard pass to the Lobos’ 30-yard line. But on first and goal from the six-yard line, Prince fumbled the snap and Workman recovered.

Bolsa Grande’s next drive ended when a snap went over Prince’s head and through the back of the end zone for a safety and a 15-0 Workman halftime lead.

Wallace finished off the Lobos’ second drive of the third quarter, scoring on an eight-yard run to give Workman a 21-0 lead. Both teams struggled on offense the rest of the game. Workman’s Mark Diaz intercepted a Prince pass late in the fourth quarter to set up Wallace’s final score, a five-yard run with 30 seconds remaining.
