COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : No. 1 Golden West Stops Saddleback

Golden West, ranked No. 1, swept previously undefeated Saddleback, 15-3, 16-14, 15-10 in an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match Wednesday at Saddleback.

Becca Foltz had 15 kills for Golden West (7-0, 3-0). Andrea Bill led Saddleback (7-1, 3-1) with 12 kills.

In other Orange Empire women’s volleyball:

Cypress 3, Rancho Santiago 2--Yuki Inagaki and Kim Thomson had 22 kills each for Rancho Santiago (5-3, 1-2). Kristy Boyd had 15 kills for host Cypress (3-8, 1-3).

In nonconference water polo:

Rancho Santiago 11, L.A. Valley 5--Michael Gonzalez stopped 13 shots, and Michael Vega scored two goals and added three assists in the Dons’ victory.

Saddleback 19, Cerritos 10--K.C. Nance scored eight goals and Blake Corbin added five for host Saddleback (8-11).

In South Coast Conference wrestling:

Rancho Santiago 42, Golden West 6--Heavyweight Jason Sparks of Rancho Santiago battled it out with Robert Vasquez to win, 8-6. Rancho Santiago is 6-2, 2-1. Golden West is 0-3.
