PASADENA : Philanthropist, Car Dealer Jack Wall Dies

Prominent civic leader and philanthropist Jack H. Wall, a Chevrolet dealer in Pasadena for more than 30 years, died of cancer at his home last week. He was 64.

Wall pioneered the concept of building over the county-owned wash to expand usable land on the site of his agency, now Team Chevrolet. Other cities, including Glendale, have since undertaken similar development projects.

Active in civic affairs, Wall also led a political action committee that lobbied for passage of California’s “lemon law” to provide some protection to car buyers who bought cars that had repeated mechanical problems. His antique car collection was often made available to the community for fund-raising events.

Wall is survived by his wife of 38 years, Helen, and his sons John, Jim and Peter.

A new maternity wing at Huntington Memorial Hospital will be named in honor of Helen and Jack Wall in recognition of their recent $1-million gift to the hospital’s replacement campaign.

Services were held Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Pasadena.

The family requests that any remembrances be made in Wall’s name to Huntington Memorial Hospital, 100 W. California Blvd., Pasadena, Calif. 91105, in care of the Development Office.
