Three coalitions of Pasadena-area churches are calling for the defeat of Proposition 187, which would deny most public services to illegal immigrants if approved Nov. 8.
The Ecumenical Council of Pasadena Area Churches, which represents 38 congregations of different denominations; the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Pasadena, comprising 32 mostly African American congregations, and Altadena Congregations Together Serving, representing nine interfaith religious bodies, said they oppose the measure.
Leaders of the groups said “the most vulnerable children will be victims of Proposition 187,” which would bar the children of illegal immigrants from attending public school.
The groups called Proposition 187 “one of the clearest moral issues to confront California voters in many years.”
