PLACENTIA — History buffs in North County can indulge their passion at the Placentia Library District’s 75th anniversary party at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Public television show host Huell Howser will be the guest speaker for the event, which celebrates the library’s humble beginnings in 1919. One resident gained the support of neighbors and the Orange County Board of Supervisors to form the district.
Featured will be a display of winning photos from an amateur photography contest, a montage of library milestones with newspaper clippings about each event, a parade of storybook characters, recognition of some of Placentia’s 75-year-old residents and dedication of the library’s History Room.
Longtime residents have donated artifacts for display in the history room. The city’s Historical Committee will catalogue, organize and operate the roomful of “Placentiana.”
Cal State Fullerton instructor Joseph Arnold will give readings from oral histories, sampling stories from pioneers, industrialists and residents. Longtime Placentia historian, author and former librarian Virginia Carpenter will be honored.
The celebration will take place at the Placentia Civic Center complex, 401 E. Chapman Ave. The event is free, but donations will be accepted to support the “adopt-a-book” program. Information: (714) 528-8248.
