LA HABRA
Sonora Senior Is Youth of Year
Audie Contreras, a Sonora High School senior, has been named Youth of the Year by the La Habra Area Chamber of Commerce for his volunteer work in the community and at school.
The 18-year-old Contreras, who is the public address announcer for many Sonora athletic events, volunteers his time at the Boys and Girls Club, La Habra Leo Club and La Habra Host Lions Club.

El Camino Senior on Traffic Safety Panel
Melissa Badillo, an El Camino High School senior, was recently appointed teen representative of Placentia’s Traffic Safety Committee.
Badillo was appointed to a two-year term on the panel, which advises the City Council on regulating car, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
Badillo, 18, was nominated by her school principal and selected after an interview with the City Council.

Servite Sophomore Becomes Eagle Scout
Victor Santiago Echevarria, a Servite High School sophomore, has qualified to be an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
A public ceremony recognizing his achievement was held last month at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Tustin.
Echevarria, 15, is a member of Troop 323 in Tustin. The Scoutmaster is Ed Ferrer. Echevarria’s Eagle Scout project involved trail building and soil erosion prevention at Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim.

Jam Session Planned for Garage Bands
Are you and your friends looking for a chance to show off your musical talents? The city of Laguna Hills has just the thing for you.
The Recreation Department is seeking youth bands for the Teen Garage Band Jam Session scheduled for Nov. 19.
If you want to join in the fun and wow fellow teens with your drum beats or guitar riffs, deliver a demo tape of your band’s music to the city by Nov. 4.
The session will run from 8 to 11 p.m. at the recreation center. To receive an entry form, call the Recreation Department at (714) 707-2686.

Gymnastics Classes to Begin on Oct. 21
Children can tumble their way through the fall in Placentia Community Services gymnastics classes, which begin Oct. 21.
The classes will be offered at Oberle Gym Stage, 974 S. Melrose Ave., through Dec. 6.
