The unique place of oaks in South County will be celebrated at the third annual Acorn Day Festival at O’Neill Regional Park on Oct. 22.
Nature lectures, workshops and guided tours will anchor the event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.
Participants can witness acorn harvesting and the planting of native coast live oak trees. There will be a petting zoo, games and storytelling for children, as well as ecological exhibits.
In addition, Acjachemen tribal members from the Juaneno band will exhibit Native American artifacts and discuss their customs. And the Cottonwood String Band will serve up Appalachian folk music. There is a $2 entry fee per vehicle. Alcohol is prohibited in the park. Picnic lunches are encouraged.
