PREP EXTRA / SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Westminster’s Second Half Buries Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Westminster, trailing by 10 points at the half, scored 23 consecutive points in the second half and went on to a 30-24 victory over Huntington Beach in a nonleague game Friday.

Huntington Beach (1-4) led, 17-7, at the half.

But the Lions (3-2) took the lead for good on a 15-yard run by Jimmy Adkisson with 2 minutes 12 seconds left in the third quarter.

Adkisson, a wide receiver, took the ball on a reverse around the right side, breaking a tackle, before reaching the end zone to put Westminster ahead, 21-17.

Westminster had cut the Huntington Beach lead to 17-14 on one-yard dive by quarterback Jerry Allison.

David Harrison scored on a 37-yard touchdown run with 7:15 left in the game to put Westminster ahead, 27-17. The extra-point attempt failed.

Harrison, a senior running back, rushed for a career-high 102 yards. He had scored Westminster’s first-half touchdown on a 15-yard run in the second quarter.

Westminster’s final score came on a 25-yard field goal by David Jarrick with 2:44 left and put the Lions ahead, 30-17.

Huntington Beach scored the game’s final touchdown on a 14-yard pass from quarterback Jason Bartusick to Dennis Masuda with 21 seconds left.

The Oilers’ on-side kick attempt failed and Westminster ran out the clock.
