Knox Keeps Quarterback Options Open

ANAHEIM — Quarterback Chris Miller says his right shoulder is fit and he’s ready to start Sunday’s game at Green Bay, but Coach Chuck Knox refused to rule out the injured Chris Chandler as a possible starter or backup.
Knox indicated that Miller likely will start against the Packers. But he added that if Chandler’s sprained left ankle showed enough improvement, he could start Chandler or make him the backup.
“I’ll say right now that Chris Miller would be the starter,” Knox said. “We’ll have to see how he (Chandler) is doing and make a decision on whether he’s ready to go.
“I’m trying to play the hand I’ve been dealt. We’re not ready to say (Miller) is ready to start right now because it can change because of the injury situation.”
Would Miller take it as an indictment of his talent if Knox started Chandler? “That’s Chuck’s call,” Miller said. “I’ve prepared the best I have this week, and we still have some preparation left.”
Chandler, who sprained his left ankle against Atlanta, threw in practice Thursday and Friday, but all of the work with the top offensive unit went to Miller and Tommy Maddox.
“He (Chandler) really has made remarkable improvement,” Knox said. “We just have to wait and see how it (ankle) reacts to the stress and strain tomorrow.”
