Central Park Invitational Set for Saturday

HUNTINGTON BEACH — More than 40 high school cross-country teams from California and 10 from Nevada will participate in the Central Park Invitational Saturday.
Varsity competition begins at 8:40 a.m. with the boys’ large-school Division I race, which features Orange County’s top-ranked team, Katella. The Knights will meet No. 2 Santa Ana and No. 8 Saddleback in what will serve as a preview of next weekend’s county championships.
The Division II boys’ race (10:45 a.m.) features county powers Huntington Beach and Mater Dei against Thousand Oaks, ranked No. 2 in the nation by Harrier Magazine, Chula Vista and San Diego High.
The Division I girls’ race (9:20 a.m.) features teams from Upland and Alta Loma as well as Pacific Coast League power Aliso Niguel. Thousand Oaks is the team to beat in the Division II girls’ race, which begins at 11:20.
