DON’T LOOK AT ME: Orange County Chamber of Commerce President Kenneth Moore has been to Vietnam to promote business ties to that country. And that’s a problem for Kent Moore of Newport Beach, who has been lobbying for Vietnamese American students to get more English classes at local colleges. . . . Some of them, bitterly opposed to overtures to communist Vietnam, mistakenly believe from news reports that their mentor may be betraying them. Says Kent Moore: “I’m not involved with that. I just want to help the students here.”

SPACE PROUD: It’s not often you have a grand opening just to brag about your warehouse. But then, Hitachi, the booming Japanese electronics manufacturer, has reason to be proud of its new warehouse and West Coast headquarters on South Street in Anaheim: 340,000 square feet of space, which has seen $55 million worth of goods--TVs, VCRs, stereos--come through since it opened in August. . . . Hitachi officials will show it off to local dignitaries at 11 a.m. today.

SEE JANE SMILE: A new exhibit chronicling the Dick and Jane learn-to-read series opens Monday at the Fullerton Public Library (E1). A bonus for visitors is a display of collectible Dick and Jane dolls made by Barbara Barnum of Fullerton. Her company sells the dolls for $350 each. . . . The appeal? “The nostalgia,” says Barnum, who learned to read in the ‘50s. “I would always anticipate going to the next story and wondering what Jane was going to be doing.”

G-RATED: For 34 years, Knott’s Berry Farm proudly backed the privately owned Mott Miniature Museum & Dollhouse shop near its gates. But the arrangement ended two years ago, and Chris Mott, its third-generation owner, now has put most of the museum in storage. His latest proposal to Buena Park was: Help finance putting the museum into what is now the X-rated Studio Theater, near Knott’s along Beach Boulevard. . . . But that plan fell through, and Mott, who still runs a local retail dollhouse shop, may move the museum out of state.
