Splitting Difference With Taxman: Del Taco Inc. in Orange has reached agreement with Orange County on a tax dispute, according to County Counsel Terry C. Andrus.
The tax dispute dates back to early 1993 when Del Taco voluntarily entered Chapter 11 proceedings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Santa Ana. Various tax claims were made and resolved last year, but late in 1993, the company and the county disagreed over $134,135.07 in taxes that the county claimed it was due.
Because “relevant statutory and case law is ambiguous,” Andrus recommended that the county agree to cut the tax bill in half, and Del Taco agreed to make the reduced payment.
