Celebrating ‘The Shvitz’
The Sunset 5 continues its Cinema Judaica series Wednesday with a one-week run of Jonathan Berman’s warm, infectious 50-minute “The Shvitz,” a celebration of the fast-vanishing communal pleasure of shvitzing (sweating) and schmoozing in Russian-Jewish-style steam baths, and Constance Marks’ rueful, wryly amusing 25-minute “Let’s Fall in Love: A Singles Weekend at the Concord” (the famous Catskills resort hotel).
Also opening Friday at the Sunset 5 for a one-week run is Martin L. Aguilar’s “Moondance,” which begins promisingly as two couples (Joris Stuyck and Patti Tippo, Lisa Moncure and Steve Ruggles) in their 30s spend an increasingly edgy weekend in a mountain cabin but takes a nose-dive into awkward fantasy.
