August Unemployment Remains at 3%: Japan’s unemployment rate remained stuck at around 3% in August, although the number of people out of work edged up to 2 million, according to the official Management and Coordination Agency. The August rate was 3.01%, or a seasonally adjusted 3%, up from 2.96% in July and 2.5% in August last year. The jobless rate for July and August is the highest since June, 1987, when Japan’s economy suffered a slump caused by the high yen.
