Carl’s Jr./Green Burrito to Open: The Orange County-based Carl’s Jr. and Green Burrito fast-food restaurant chains will open their first joint eatery Wednesday in a Carl’s Jr. restaurant at 21704 S. Avalon in Carson. The store is one of six being converted to sell both Carl’s Jr. hamburgers and Green Burrito’s Mexican-style food. Executives at Anaheim-based Carl’s Jr. said the experiment will be considered a success if the combined menus bolster overall revenue without siphoning off existing sales. Several regional fast-food companies, including Long John Silver’s and Arby’s, are experimenting with serving two brands of food under the same roof. The idea of putting Carl’s Jr. and Green Burrito under a single roof was a pet project of Carl’s founder Carl N. Karcher. He believed in the idea so strongly that it cost him the chairmanship. The board of directors voted to replace him last October after it initially refused to go along with the idea of testing Green Burrito operations in their restaurants. Karcher was later restored as chairman emeritus, and the company relented on the Green Burrito test idea in June.
