CS Northridge Takes Five Again and Wins

NORTHRIDGE — Cal State Northridge, which is making a habit of playing five-game matches this season, defeated Cal State Sacramento, 14-16, 15-13, 3-15, 15-7, 15-11, in a nonconference women’s volleyball match Saturday at Matador Gymnasium.
Missy Clements had 24 kills and 21 digs, and Aimee Stone added 22 and 20 as the Matadors (9-6) registered a gymnasium-record 84 kills.
The victory was the second in a row for Northridge and fifth in its last seven contests. The Matadors are 4-3 in five-game matches.
After getting blown out in the third game, Northridge raced to an 11-2 lead in the fourth. Sacramento (9-6) narrowed its deficit to 11-7 before the Matadors ran off the last four points.
The score was tied, 9-9, in the fifth game--which was played under the rally point scoring system--before the Matadors scored three consecutive points to take control at 12-9.
Shannon Melville had 21 kills for Sacramento.
