Thousand Oaks Settles for Second

Senior Keith O’Doherty and junior Kim Mortensen each placed fourth in their respective races Saturday to lead the Thousand Oaks High boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams to second-place finishes in the Southwestern University Invitational in Georgetown, Tex.
O’Doherty timed 16 minutes over the three-mile course as Thousand Oaks, the No. 2-ranked team in the country by the Harrier magazine, totaled 44 points. Top-ranked Kingwood, Tex., placed first with 37 points, paced by the 1-3 finish of senior twins Brad and Brent Hauser.
Todd Disney (eighth in 16:48), Kevin Marsden (ninth in 16:52), Jeff Fischer (10th in 16:53) and Josh Carolan (13th in 17:08) rounded out Thousand Oaks’ top five runners.
Marsden and Fischer were racing for only the second time this season after missing the first two meets with injuries.
Mortensen ran 12:07 over the two-mile girls’ course as Thousand Oaks totaled 74 points. Kingwood placed five runners among the top 19 finishers for a 46-point winning total.
Tara Marsden (15th in 12:49) and Bridgit Roy (16th in 12:49) were Thousand Oaks’ No. 2 and No. 3 runners.
