For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Use a pre-emergent weed control and fertilizer now to prevent poa annua (annual blue grass) and other weeds later on.

* Add several inches of mulch to your garden to keep roots cool.

* Divide perennials this month.

* Remove fallen fruit and leaves from around fruit trees. Bag and remove from garden.
