El Dorado Shuts Down Fullerton, 14-0

El Dorado football coach Rick Jones got the improved defensive play he wanted from his team Friday night, and the Golden Hawks also came up with their first victory of the season.

The Golden Hawks shut down Fullerton, 14-0, at the Fullerton District Stadium.

El Dorado (1-3) allowed the Indians (2-2) only three yards into its territory in the first half. The Hawks held the Indians to only eight yards passing and allowed its leading rusher only 23 yards.

“Defensively we really started to tackle better and get off the ball quicker,” Jones said.

Jones had preached improvement on defense after a close loss to Valencia last week. He called Friday night’s shutout a definite improvement.

Richard Williams led the Hawks with 83 yards in 10 carries in the first half but left the game with a broken leg with 7:30 left in the half. David Meyers and Ismail Abdullah with 40 and 38 yards respectively.

The Hawks took control of the game early. On its third play from scrimmage, a pass by Fullerton’s Chad Lukkes was intercepted by Ismail and returned 23 yards for the first score of the game.

Early in the second quarter, the Hawks got the ball at the Indians’ 38-yard line after a short punt. A few plays later, Williams ran for a 13-yard touchdown. Quarterback Mike Marzicola ran in the two point conversion to push the lead to 14-0.
