OXNARD : 15 Groups Lauded for Recycling Efforts

Fifteen Oxnard organizations, including the school district, have won awards for their waste-reduction efforts.
The Oxnard School District has recycled 2.3 tons of green waste since April, saving about $60 a month on waste-dumping fees, said Hope Stadin, operations supervisor for ground maintenance.
Rather than taking tree trimmings and yard clippings to a dump, the district finds it cheaper to pay the city to haul the green waste to a recycling center.
“We want to give attention to business and education institutions that are saving landfill space, natural resources and energy,” said Jay Duncan, city of Oxnard recycling specialist.
Other agencies honored for their waste-reduction programs include: EGNG Rocky Flats Inc., Esplanade Mall, Merchants Home Delivery Service Inc., Procter & Gamble, St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Capistrano’s restaurant, Channel Islands High School, Future Care, GE Plastics, Hueneme High School, Landspeed Production, Martin V. Smith property managers, Oxnard College and Wells Fargo Bank.
