IRVINE — Seton Hall basketball player Tchaka Shipp has applied to UC Irvine, where he plans to play for the Anteaters in the 1995-96 season.
Shipp, a 6-foot-8 forward, announced his intentions to transfer to Irvine and play for Coach Rod Baker, a former Seton Hall assistant under P.J. Carlesimo. Carlesimo was hired as the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers on Thursday.
Petrina Long, UCI associate athletic director and senior women’s administrator, confirmed the school received Shipp’s application, adding that it won’t finish processing the paperwork until late summer.
Under NCAA rules, Shipp, a sophomore, can enroll at Irvine but must sit out one season before playing basketball. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Shipp, a former standout at Brooklyn Lincoln High, averaged 2.9 points and 2.8 rebounds for Seton Hall last season.
