Barrett Hired as Baseball Coach at Chaminade High

Denny Barrett has been hired as Chaminade High’s baseball coach, replacing Dave Desmond, who left at the end of the 1994 season to become an assistant at Valley College.
Barrett, 29, has served as an assistant at Notre Dame High and at UC Santa Barbara. He is currently an assistant with the Van Nuys East American Legion team.
Barrett was an infielder at Notre Dame High and went on to play at Cal State Northridge, DeAnza College and Lewis-Clark State College.
Track and Field
Jeremy Fischer of Camarillo High and Cal State Northridge freshman Beth Burton will compete in the USA Track & Field junior championships at Florida State, starting today.
Fischer, who has a personal best of 7 feet 4 inches in the high jump and is undefeated outdoors this season, will compete Saturday.
Burton, who has put the shot 47-7 1/4, will throw today.
Marty Beck, 24, who finished fifth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in the USA Track & Field championships in Knoxville, Tenn., last week and has a personal best of 49.50 seconds in the event, has been hired as an assistant coach at Glendale College.
After finishing second in the 1990 state junior college championships for Glendale, Beck was a two-time All-American at UCLA, finishing fourth in the 1991 NCAA championships and second in 1992.
