State Sen. Art Torres is not “the first Latino to win a major party statewide race in more than 120 years” (June 9).
In 1958, attorney Henry Lopez was the Democratic nominee for secretary of state.
Although the entire Democratic ticket swept the state, Lopez was the only statewide nominee to lose in November (to the longtime incumbent, Frank Jordan).
