BRIEFLY : Film: 5 Actors, Directors to Be Honored at Festival

The 1994 American Film Institute’s International Film Festival opens today in Santa Monica at Laemmle’s Monica Theatres.
The festival, which runs through July 7, will coincide with the World Cup USA’s cultural showcase, Arts94. Five actors and directors will be honored in nightly tributes that will include a showing of the artist’s works and a question and answer session with the honoree.
On Saturday, the institute will honor Dennis Hopper, a writer, director and actor who starred in “Easy Rider” and “Blue Velvet.” In his question and answer period, he will be joined by actor Sean Penn.
Academy Award winner Holly Hunter will be on hand Sunday for a tribute session moderated by Jean Firstenberg, director of the institute.
The festival is open to the public with movie showings from 1:20 to 9 p.m. at the Laemmle Theatres, 1332 2nd St., Santa Monica. Admission for all movies and tributes is $7.50. Information: Theatix, (213) 466-1767.
