In a move that surprised Burroughs High athletic officials, quarterback Scott Boldvich has transferred to Foothill League rival Hart. Boldvich passed for 840 yards and one touchdown as a junior last season as Burroughs finished 5-6 and reached the playoffs.
In March, he supported Pat Blackburn as a replacement for Coach Gary Bernardi, now an assistant at UCLA. Burroughs hired Robert dos Remedios.
Baseball
Ryan Hankins of Simi Valley High was two for three and scored a run Wednesday as California defeated Oklahoma, 7-2, in the Sunbelt Seniors Baseball Classic in Edmond, Okla.
Hankins had four hits and drove in two runs in California’s 18-1 victory Tuesday over Maryland as Brian Bowles of Peninsula and Brian Scott of San Diego Ramona combined for a no-hitter.
Joel Zamudio, an All-City pitcher from Monroe High, signed a contract Wednesday with the Philadelphia Phillies. Zamudio, a right-hander, said the terms included $12,000 for school, $7,500 as an incentive and another, larger undisclosed signing bonus.
Basketball
The Burbank Summer Classic, a two-day high school basketball tournament, will begin at 1 p.m. today at Burbank High.
Entered in the eight-team tournament are Notre Dame, Burroughs, Village Christian, Alemany, Chaminade, La Canada and two teams from Burbank High.
