Scholarships Offered for Swim Lessons

For a splash of fun this summer, youngsters 7 through 17 can take free swimming lessons at 13 public pools in the San Fernando Valley.
The Amateur Athletic Foundation is offering scholarships, on a first-come, first-served basis, for the two-week swimming sessions. Without the scholarship, the sessions cost $12.
The lessons will include introduction to butterfly and back strokes, plus competition strategies and actual racing.
Those who participate also have the opportunity to qualify for a citywide swim meet, the 1994 Summer Swim Festival at the AAF’s Rose Bowl Aquatics Center.
The Valley pools involved in the program are: Fernangeles Pool, Sun Valley; Hubert Humphrey Pool and Paxton Pool, Pacoima; Lanark Pool, Canoga Park; Valley Plaza Pool, North Hollywood; Granada Hills, Northridge, Reseda, North Hollywood and Woodland Hills pools; Sepulveda Pool, Panorama City; Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Pool, Van Nuys, and Verdugo Hills Pool, Tujunga.
