ATM Fee Disclosure
In “ATM Tuneup” (editorial, June 4), you state that the banks are reluctant to disclose ATM fees on the screen at the time of the transaction because bankers say it would “be inconvenient, though not technologically impossible” to do so. At virtually every ATM machine in Las Vegas, a message flashes informing the consumer of the transaction fees and asking him/her if he/she wishes to proceed. The ATMs are generally of the same manufacture as those found in California, and work on the same systems found in this state, such as STAR and EXPLORE. Once again, when dealing with those masters of integrity in three-piece suits, it’s not a question of “can’t,” it’s a question of “won’t.”
