ABC Calls an Audible

Television coverage of Monday’s U.S. Open playoff was confusing. ABC had announced Sunday that coverage would run from 7-9:30 a.m. on ESPN and from 9:30 to conclusion on ABC. But Monday, ABC decided not to pick up coverage until 11.

Then when the playoff went into sudden death, ABC preempted the coverage during the first extra hole to cover the arraignment of O.J. Simpson. Fortunately for ABC, it was able to rejoin the golf tournament before conclusion and showed highlights of the missed hole.
