MISSION VIEJO : Sweeping Contract Goes to Irvine Firm

A one-year street-sweeping contract has been awarded to Irvine-based Sunset Property Services, which uses sweepers powered by compressed natural gas.
The sweepers produce 95% less carbon monoxide and particulate emissions than sweepers powered by diesel fuel, company President John Howhannesian said.
The company’s sweepers also use a regenerative air system designed to recirculate air inside the vehicle, rather than expel dust and particulates into the environment, Howhannesian said.
The $300,000 contract with the city calls for general sweeping of residential and business streets, along with main arterials and city parking lots.
City Manager Fred Sorsabal said the company was chosen because it has demonstrated “a commitment to provide state-of-the-art solutions for cleaning the environment, as well as services that are responsive and innovative.”
