Benito Flores, a left-handed pitcher at Placentia El Dorado High, has accepted a scholarship and will attend Cal State Northridge this fall, Matador baseball Coach Bill Kernen said.
Kernen also said that freshman right-hander Raymond Rivera, a 12-game winner at Mission College last season, has made an oral commitment to attend Northridge.
Volleyball
Gail Castro, a former Crescenta Valley High standout, will appear in her 51st Women’s Professional Volleyball Assn. semifinal match today, teaming with former UCLA All-American Elaine Roque to face the 15th-seeded team of Marie Anderson and Lisa Arce in the Hermosa Beach Open.
The third-seeded team of Castro and Roque defeated sixth-seeded Monique Oliver and Gayle Stammer, 15-12, in the quarterfinals, after opening competition with a 15-5 victory over Bonnie Bright and Nancy Brookhart and a 15-7 second-round victory over Kristine Bailey and Shannon Millen.
