Name: GABE GARDNER
School/Year: San Clemente, Jr.
Gardner, the team’s best all-around player, is a dynamic 6-8 hitter. He helped the Tritons finish second in the South Coast League and helped San Clemente hand Laguna Beach its only regular-season loss.

Name: MIKE GRAVE
School/Year: Huntington Beach, Sr.
Grave led the Oilers to their second consecutive Division I championship. Although he was the No. 1 option in the Huntington Beach offense, his defense and passing were equally important to the team’s success.

Name: RYAN MARIANO
School/Year: El Toro, Sr.
Mariano, a 6-3 outside hitter who has signed with Long Beach State, was one of the most versatile players in the county. He helped El Toro maintain a No. 1 ranking in the county for most of the season.

Name: MITCH McCOY
School/Year: Newport Harbor, Sr.
McCoy, a 6-4 outside hitter, and setter Eric Vallely were the cornerstones of a Sailor team that shared the Sea View League championship with Corona del Mar. He has signed a letter of intent with UC Santa Barbara.

Name: TODD STEINERT
School/Year: El Toro, Sr.
Although his teammates drew rave reviews for their hitting, Steinert’s steady setting anchored the Chargers, who finished the tough South Coast League undefeated. He has signed with Brigham Young.

Name: DAN STYLES
School/Year: Laguna Beach, Jr.
Styles, who is also a AAA-rated beach volleyball player, elevated his play in the postseason. Although only a junior, he led Laguna Beach to the Southern Section Division I final for the first time in 11 years.
THE SECOND TEAM
Name: Mike Allison School/Year: Esperanza, Sr. Helped Esperanza win its fourth consecutive league title.

Name: Bob Hefty School/Year: Dana Hills, Sr. The versatile 6-8 middle blocker signed with UC Santa Barbara.

Name: Brooks Hoppe School/Year: Corona del Mar, Sr. Sea View co-MVP helped team win league; signed with USC.

Name: Szilard Kovacs School/Year: Laguna Beach, Sr. Dominating 6-9 middle blocker from Hungary signed with USC.

Name: Philip Schildts School/Year: Calvary Chapel, Sr. Led the Eagles to the Southern Section Division III title.

Name: Brandon Taliaferro School/Year: San Clemente, So. The 6-5 setter led the Tritons to the Division I semifinals.
