Bike Path: Letting Walkers and Bicyclists Share the Scenic Route

The 21.6 miles of bike path featured in the May 19 Westside section is exactly the same 14-foot width from Pacific Palisades to Torrance.
The 1.5-mile segment in Pacific Palisades, however, has a designated walker path included in that width. Then, the walker portion is arbitrarily painted away and the bike path is suddenly expanded. I have often wondered why this is so.
Why not extend the walker portion for the full length of the path? Then everyone would travel single file in peace and order.
