Eclipse Award winners Flawlessly and Hollywood Wildcat could get together for the first time in the $150,000 Gamely Handicap on Sunday at Hollywood Park.
Idle since finishing third in the La Canada Stakes on Feb. 5, Hollywood Wildcat is considered possible for the Gamely, which is run at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. After being scratched out of the Hawthorne Handicap on May 29 when she came down with a slight cough, the daughter of Kris S., who won the Eclipse as the nation’s top 3-year-old filly in 1993, worked seven furlongs on the turf in 1:27 4/5 on Wednesday.
Flawlessly, unbeaten in six starts on the Hollywood Park turf course, was assigned 124 pounds, two more than Hollywood Wildcat, for her first race in more than seven months. She worked five furlongs on the grass in 1:01. The 6-year-old daughter of Affirmed won her second consecutive Eclipse Award as the nation’s top female grass performer last year.
