Haiti Poor in Embargo

“Haiti Poor Get Poorer in Embargo” (May 23) needs to be absorbed by our politicians. How can we expect the people of Haiti and Iraq (against whom we also have an embargo) to rise up against their dictators when their countries are in chaos? People are too weak and sickly to do anything against their governments while those in government don’t seem to be suffering any adverse effects. It seems to me that we are actually helping the dictators to stay in power. We say we allow food and medicine into the countries but the poor are not getting either because they have no money.
We are causing vast numbers of people to suffer miserably. We’ve got to find a more effective way to deal with these cruel regimes. Allowing babies and their parents to suffer and to die is surely not the American way.
