Mathews Loses Top Basketball Assistant

Virgil Watson, an assistant men’s basketball coach at Ventura College, has been named to a similar position at UC Santa Barbara.

Watson was the top assistant to Coach Philip Mathews at Ventura the past four seasons. He was the head coach at Valley College from 1985 to 1987, an assistant with the Monarchs from 1982 to 1985, and an assistant to Pete Cassidy at Cal State Northridge from 1980 to 1982.
