Dolores Tuimoloau
SCHOOL: Channel Islands
SPORT: Track and field
YEAR: Senior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Tuimoloau has been the dominant shotputter in the state since the start of the season. She opened her outdoor campaign with a then-personal best of 45 feet 6 inches to win the Spartan Relays on March 5 and moved into a tie for seventh on the all-time state list when she unleashed a 49-2 effort in the Ventura County championships on April 29. She suffered only one defeat this season.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Tuimoloau won the state championships at Cerritos College on Saturday with a put of 46-10 to become Channel Islands’ first state champion. After producing the second-best put (49-0 1/2) of her career in Friday’s preliminaries, Tuimoloau had the top four marks in the finals. “This is a dream come true,” Tuimoloau said. “I never imagined winning state when the season started. I just wanted to see how much I could improve on my previous marks.”
