CAPE TOWN, South Africa — A fugitive 16-year-old boy who is one of four people charged with murdering American student Amy Biehl was caught Tuesday.
The youth, whose name has not been released, had been missing since skipping a court hearing in November. He was arrested Tuesday, and a judge ordered him held until an Aug. 15 hearing. He had not originally been jailed because of his age.
The other three suspects were released on $70 bail each last month. Their next court hearing also is Aug. 15.
A crowd chanting racial slurs surrounded Biehl, a 26-year-old white Fulbright scholar from Newport Beach, after she drove friends to their homes in the black township of Guguletu last August. The four black defendants are accused of beating and stabbing her to death.
