A 14-year-old girl was critically injured Saturday morning after falling 65 feet from lower Rose Valley Falls north of Ojai, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The girl, whose name was not released by authorities, had climbed up to a ledge at the lower falls about 8:30 a.m. She slipped on moss while taking in the view, said Ventura County Fire Capt. Bob Myers from Station 22 in Meiners Oaks.
Myers said the girl fell into a six-inch pool of water, striking several jagged rocks when she hit. She suffered cuts and scrapes to her head, internal injuries and possibly a broken leg, he said.
The girl was taken by Sheriff’s Department helicopter to the Ventura County Medical Center, where she is listed in critical but stable condition, a Medical Center spokeswoman said.
