ROCKINGHAM, Vt. — What’s the price of honesty? $97.50
When a gasoline station attendant quit in mid-shift and left a self-service pump turned on, motorists bypassed the chance to fill up and speed off.
When they found the station locked and closed Wednesday, they slipped money under the front door.
The station was unattended for almost two hours. Motorists pumped $97.50 worth of gas in that time. Station manager Elaine Hall counted 53 cents more than the amount of the day’s sales.
