Huntington Park withstood a seventh-inning threat to outlast Lincoln, 2-1, Friday at Crystal Springs Park. The Spartans will play Franklin at 4 p.m. Monday for the 3-A Division championship at Dodger Stadium.
Juan Carrillo pitched a four-hitter, striking out four and walking six, to earn his fifth victory.
Lincoln had only a single against Carrillo through five innings. However, Carrillo escaped jams in the sixth and seventh innings, giving up only one run. The big play came with two outs when Eddie Chavez, who had singled and reached second on wild pitch, tried to score on Cesar Castaneda’s single but was thrown out at the plate.
After loading the bases with one out in the seventh, Lincoln scored its first run on a wild pitch by Carrillo, who got the last two outs on ground balls. The Spartans scored their first run when Rolando Gonzalez doubled and scored on Hugo Villagrana’s single in the second. In the third, Sergio Nolasco doubled and scored on Alex Oropeza’s single.
