Huntington Park 5, Roosevelt 1--Spartan pitcher Mario Arambula limited the area’s best-hitting team, the Roughriders, to one run on three hits Wednesday at Evergreen Park.
“The key was that he (Arambula) is a left-handed pitcher,” said Roosevelt Coach Ernie Rodriguez. “We couldn’t get a good hit on him.”
The Spartans got busy at the top of the first. Two walks, an Alex Oropeza single and a Jaime Urnales sacrifice fly put them up by two runs.
It wasn’t until the fifth, with a Manny Barrios’ double, that Roosevelt posed a threat. The Roughriders tightened the score in the sixth after Barrios drove in Alex Rodriguez on a single.
But the Spartans scored three runs in the top of the seventh on a triple by Juan Carrillo.
