HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Dean’s Double in 10th Pushes Hart Past Saugus

Josh Weitzman scored on Aaron Dean’s two-out double to center in the 10th inning Thursday to give host Hart (15-4, 7-0 in league play) a 6-5 Foothill League victory over Saugus.
Freshman Bobby Graves struck out 15 and walked five in 8 2/3 innings after replacing Eric Spindt with one out in the first and the Indians trailing, 3-0.
Hoover 2, Crescenta Valley 0--Junior left-hander Amador Solis pitched five shutout innings, scattering four hits, in Hoover’s Pacific League upset of Crescenta Valley (12-4, 9-1), ranked third in the region by The Times.
L.A. Baptist 5, Valley Christian 3--Nate Laufer struck out nine and drove in two runs with a tie-breaking double in the fifth inning for the host Knights (13-5) in the championship game of the L.A. Baptist tournament. Laufer earned MVP honors.
Sylmar 3, North Hollywood 0--Visiting Sylmar (19-3, 10-0) remained perfect in Valley Pac-8 Conference play behind Carlos Velazco’s three-hitter against struggling North Hollywood (6-12, 0-10).
Poly 5, Grant 0--Jerry Delgado struck out five without issuing a walk while throwing a two-hit shutout for visiting Poly (16-2, 8-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Monroe 1, Van Nuys 0--Senior Joel Zamudio (3-2) struck out 10 and walked three while posting his third complete game and a four-hit shutout for visiting Monroe (6-8, 5-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
El Camino Real 10, Reseda 1--Senior left-hander Randy Wolf went the distance, striking out eight while allowing four hits for visiting El Camino Real (14-4, 6-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Granada Hills 3, San Fernando 0--Josh Goldberg threw a seven-hitter, struck out two and walked one for visiting Granada Hills in the Northwest Valley Conference game.
Kennedy 4, Cleveland 2--Brad Cooperman pitched a four-hitter, striking out six and giving up one earned run, leading the host Golden Cougars (8-9, 3-6) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Chatsworth 10, Taft 3--Jim DeBiase (6-1) struck out 11 and walked four while scattering five hits for visiting Chatsworth (18-3, 9-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Canoga Park 5, Birmingham 4--David Vargas singled to drive in Emy Gallegos with the winning run with one out in the seventh, capping a four-run rally for host Canoga Park (5-9, 3-7) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
SOFTBALL
Village Christian 2, Maranatha 0--Sophomore Jessie Leivo pitched host Village Christian’s second consecutive no-hitter, striking out seven and missing a perfect game by walking Maranatha pitcher Shay Pierson with one out in the fourth in an Alpha League game.
Saugus 3, Burbank 1--Senior second baseman Kim O’Leary went four for four for Saugus (20-2, 7-0) in the Foothill League game.
BOYS’ TRACK
Hart 85, Burroughs 41--Jason Medearis and John McLaughlin each won two events for host Hart as the Indians won their sixth consecutive Foothill League title.
