** Carcass, “Heartwork,” Earache/Columbia. Has British grindcore band Carcass matured since its early death-metal songs such as “Feast on Dismembered Carnage”? The hyper-speed riffs and depths-of-hell vocals on “Heartwork” say no. But Carcass’ fourth record in nine years does take a slightly more melodic and accessible approach, though the lyrics are still as deliberately abstruse as the band’s dense musicality.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
