COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Pacific Eliminates Irvine in Women’s Tennis

University of the Pacific swept UC Irvine in singles for a 5-0 victory in a quarterfinal match of the Big West Conference women’s tennis championship Thursday at the Ojai Valley Racquet Club.
Tracee Lee of Pacific beat Irvine’s Janet Johnson, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. Pacific advances to play No. 2-seeded Nevada Las Vegas, which beat New Mexico State, 5-0.
In nonconference softball:
Pacific Christian 3-12, Biola 2-0--Greta Carlson, who won both games, pitched 13 innings, giving up four hits and striking out 16--10 in the first game--for Pacific Christian (18-16). Rhonda Staton had four hits on the day, including a double, home run and five RBIs for the Royals.
In the Golden State Athletic Conference:
California Baptist 2-1, Concordia 1-2--Stephanie Viola singled in Julie Mangels in the bottom of the fifth inning with the winning run for Concordia (14-18, 2-10) in game two.
In the NCAA women’s gymnastics championships:
Titans far back--Celeste Delia of Cal State Fullerton was 30th and teammate Christi Clifford 34th in the preliminary all-around at the competition in Salt Lake City.
